• Jaya TV to broadcast AR Rahman's concert during Pongal

    MUMBAI: Tamil satellite channel Jaya TV has said it will broadcast live legendary Indian composer, singer-songwriter, and music producer AR Rahman?s concert on 29 December at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

    The concert will be telecast on Jaya TV during Pongal (14, 15 and 17 January). The channel will also telecast a two-hour special t?te-?-t?te with A R Rahman on 13 November.

    Apart from the concert, Jaya TV is giving a lifetime opportunity to the singing talents from Tamil Nadu to participate in a talent hunt, where 10 lucky participants stand a chance to perform at the concert with A R Rahman. Jaya TV will telecast this statewide search as three episodes of half-hour.

    Jaya TV Network VP K. P. Sunil said, ?It?s been a long time since Rahman?s last performance in Chennai and we are delighted to be the official broadcasters of this much-awaited concert. He has redefined contemporary Indian music. He is a global phenomenon with a massive fan following especially in his home-town, Chennai. The excitement levels around the concert have already reached a crescendo. We are building a complete festival on the entire Jaya TV network."

    Hailed as "the Mozart of Madras" and the first Indian to win two Oscars, Rahman will be performing in Chennai after four years. The organisers are expecting more than 12000 audiences for the ground event.

The Network has been investing extensively on new programming within the genres of Fiction, Games Shows and Events.   • Nokia Music Connects back with fourth edition

    MUMBAI: The fourth edition of Music Connects will be held in Mumbai at the ITC Grand Central on 6 and 7 November. The event is produced by Hong Kong-based Music Matters and indiantelevision.com group‘s radioandmusic.com, and is supported by Indian and international music industry trade bodies IMI, Simca, PPL, IPRS, BMI among others. The theme for this year‘s event is Digital Transformation.

    The event is being backed by global mobile devices leader Nokia for the fourth year running. The Fourth Nokia Music Connects summit will continue to showcase leading executives from the Indian and international labels, digital platforms, live music industry and device manufacturers discussing the current state and the way forward for the music business. Leading music blogger, Bob Lefsetz will also be featuring as one of the keynotes.

    This will be the first time that Nokia Music Connects will have an international market spotlight on Australia. This series of events will include a keynote interview with Australian promoter Michael Chugg and a panel highlighting opportunities for Indian musicians in the Land Down Under. Five Australian acts will also be showcasing their stuff at the event this year. The bands performing at the showcase are: Big Scary, Jinja Safari, Karnivool, Sheppard, and The Aston Shuffle.
