MUMBAI: Even as Tata Sky is gearing up for launch of its direct-to-home (DTH) service by June, cable operators are feeling the heat of competition.
"DTH operators are trying to hook up customers in a residential society through a common dish antenna. This is unfair as it is becoming a direct to society rather than a direct to home service. We are going to oppose such movements," Cable Operators and Distributors Association (CODA) president Anil Parab said.
CODA is also against the bundling of pay TV broadcasters who are bundling channels and creating multiple bouquets to increase pressure on cable TV subscription rates. "If cable rates go up, consumers will migrate to DTH. That is the intention of pay channels who also have business interests in DTH operations," Parab said.
Last mile cable operators and distributors will meet in Mumbai on Friday to decide what course of action to take as competition sets on from DTH, he added.
