MUMBAI: The Star Group has appointed Dr Guo Xiao Yong as its chief technology officer. In this newly created post, Dr Guo will oversee all technical and engineering matters for the company. He reports to Star COO Steve Askew.

Guo was quoted in a company release saying, "I am very excited to be joining Star, the industry leader in satellite television broadcasting in Asia. I look forward to working with the dedicated technology team to further strengthen its leadership position."

Guo has extensive experience in satellite communications and broadcast technology in Asia. He was a founding member of Pacific Century Matrix, responsible for the design and construction of its multi-service network operations centre in Hong Kong and the company's satellite digital TV, IP access and voice over internet protocol services. He has also worked with the Pacific Century Group, satellite operator Asiasat and Arecom of France Telecom.
