MUMBAI: Gemstar-TV Guide International has announced that Mark Wilson has been named chairman of its TVG Network. Wilson resigned from his earlier post in the organisation as president and CEO.
A company release states that Wilson will remain involved in the overall strategy and long-term planning for the network, while moving away from managing the daily operations of the business. The company will search for a new network president. Available in more than 12 million homes in America, the TVG Network claims to be the US' premier horse racing network, combining live horse racing with in-home account wagering. In India horse racing action airs on Ten Sports.
Gemstar-TV Guide CEO Jeff Shell added, "As a founder of the TVG Network, Mark is a true entrepreneur. When I joined Gemstar-TV Guide, he graciously agreed to remain at the helm of TVG, while I focused on the significant issues facing Gemstar-TV Guide, and got up to speed on the TVG operation. Mark is now taking on a new role to pursue his other business interests.
"Mark's leadership created TVG Network's current success as the country's premier horse racing channel, and positioned the TVG network incredibly well for future growth. I greatly appreciate the guidance and support he has provided in the past two years, and I am pleased that he has decided to stay on in the Chairman's role so that we can continue to benefit from his knowledge and experience going forward."
Wilson said, "Horse racing is my first love, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the wonderful TVG team to build this business. I look forward to staying involved with TVG, and helping to build on its current success. However I have always intended to move away from the day-to-day operations of the business, and am looking forward to focusing attention on business endeavours outside of the interactive horse racing television business."
