MUMBAI: Star India, which runs two Hindi movie channels, has acquired the satellite rights for Vidhu Vinod Chopra produced drama-comedy film Ferrari Ki Sawaari for a period of 10 years.

According to sources, Star paid a price of Rs 80 million for the rights. Another figure floating around is Rs 100 million, keeping in line with the rise in prices of movies for satellite rights.

?Yes, we have taken the rights of Ferrari Ki Sawaari for a period of 10 years. After giving it a thought, we realised that this film should work on television," Star Gold and Movies OK general manager Hemal Jhaveri tells Indiantelevision.com.

The Sharman Joshi-starrer movie has collected Rs 390 million at the box office worldwide, according to Eros International, which has the worldwide distribution rights for the film.

Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, written by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajesh Mapuskar with dialogues by Rajkumar Hirani, Ferrari Ki Sawaari stars Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Ritwik Sahore with a song appearance by Vidya Balan.

Star has a vast film library of around 1,300 movies including the 500 movies that it had acquired from Viacom 18 last year.
