MUMBAI: Emmy award-winning actor Tony Randall has died at age 84. Randall is known for his brilliant portrayl of the character of fastidious photographer Felix Unger in U.S. television's The Odd Couple.

Randall, who underwent triple-bypass heart surgery late last year had shown signs of recovering and growing stronger but suffered a setback two days ago and died in his sleep at New York University Medical Center.

In a career spanning almost 50 years, Randall worked in radio, on Broadway, in television and film. But Randall was best known for his Odd Couple role. The role earned him an Emmy in 1975 and became a perennial favorite in syndication.

The TV series, adapted from a Neil Simon play made into a 1968 movie starring Jack Lemmonand Walter Matthau, ran on ABC from 1970-1975.
