MUMBAI: Around 30% of the world’s land area is forests. But with 15 billion trees getting cut down every year, they are disappearing at an alarming rate, paving way for a future that will be lifeless, draining and without trees. If there is a time to avert that, it’s now! This World Environment Day, MTV, India’s No 1 Youth Entertainment Brand, rides on this thought and brings a unique twist to their campaign that aims to raise awareness about planting more trees.
With a series of quirky videos, MTV will urge its audience to understand the importance of planting trees and the repercussions of irresponsible conduct. One of the brand films, titled Eagle Man, depicts a kid’s fascination for his toys and reflects the old adage- You reap what you sow, and demonstrates how our negligible use of plastics and indifference to environment may lead to a future we are not ready for. MTV’s environment day campaign is a shout out to viewers to plant more trees and refrain from the use of plastics.
The film, Eagle Man, shows how a little boy decides to grow his own toys, because his parents refuse to buy him more toys. Unhappy, he buries his favorite eagle man action figure and starts watering it every day. The idea backfires when a life-sized Eagleman sprouts out of the earth and absconds with his mother. As the kid and his father stand shocked, the video culminates into a meaningful ending conveying a fruitful message.

The second film deals with the issue of marine pollution as it has become a global concern. Through this short film it depicts a grim reality that could come true because of the increasing use of plastics affecting the marine life. The film shows gourmet sea food like sushi, crab and grilled fish being plated, only to reveal that it’s actually made of plastic. Ahead of World Oceans Day on June 8, MTV spreads awareness on how plastic dumped in our oceans is being consumed by marine animals, killing about 100+ millions of them annually.
We have only one Earth, with its precious components like the Land, Food and Water that we humans are blessed with. This World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, let’s pledge to do our bit and save the planet.
