MUMBAI: INT-Channel 4 News, based in Central London has bagged the 2004 International Emmy for the best news programme produced The Madrid Bombing.
The announcement was made last night by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which grants the International Emmy, at a gathering in New York.
According to an official communiqué, International Academy of Television Arts & Science president and CEO Bruce Paisner said, "We are pleased to award with the prestigious 2004 International Emmy for News Coverage to ITN-Channel 4 News. Journalists today work in difficult and dangerous conditions, often risking their lives to serve the free media."
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is the largest organisation of global broadcasters. The Academy was chartered in 1969 with a mission to honor and encourage excellence in television programming produced outside of the United States by awarding the International Emmy Award in eight categories, as stated in the offical release.
The other nominated programs were: Good Morning Japan: Eclipse in the Antarctic produced by NHK Japan; Liberia produced by Sky News United Kingdom and News 7: Terrorist Bombing of UN Headquarters in Iraq produced by NHK, Japan.
For the second year in a row, the Academy paid homage to international television journalists killed in the line of duty.
