China introduces mobile TV sets in cabs

MUMBAI: Beijing will soon have over 10,000 taxis equipped with mobile TV sets. Almost 1,000 out of 66,000 taxis in the city have already been furnished with the sets.

Media reports have quoted Wang Xiaoyou, spokeswoman for the Beijing BAMC Mobile TV Co Ltd, which launched the service on 4,000 city buses last year, as saying that half ot the target would be achieved by October this year. The small TV set is fixed into the back of the front passenger seat.

The company plans to cover the whole of Beijing's public transport system with the new technology by 2008 when the Olympic Games will be held.
