MUMBAI: Which people, moments, news and trends captivated Americans in 2004?
Fox's American Idol was the television show that people searched the most for further information about, at least on America Online. This was followed by Oprah Winfrey and CBS' reality show Survivor.
AOL Search, America Online's search destination, has announced the year's top searches in the US based on what people and topics received the highest volume of online queries on the AOL service and AOL.com.
Among movies Harry Potter reigned supreme followed by The Passion of the Christ. People searched for information on the Mel Gibson film no doubt due to the initial controversy the film generated. Even though the Lord of The Rings trilogy concluded last year Americans still searched in a big way for information on the film.
In terms of the top searched people Britney Spears ranked number one followed by one of the heirs to the Hilton fortune Paris Hilton. Janet Jackson's hugely publicised Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" came out on top in the top celebrity setbacks category. This was followed by Britney Spears' weddings
