Scat to focus on digitisation, conditional access systems

MUMBAI: The 18th edition of Scat, the television technology exhibition for the satellite and cable TV industry, takes place from 21 - 23 October.

Scat executive director Dinyar contractor says that the focus this time is on digitisation in terms of headends and conditional access systems.

"It is expected that by March next year the I&B Ministry will come out with a roadmap for digitisation. This would mean analogue switchoff which naturally would quicken the digitisatiion process. Contional access systems vendors are looking to address this large, emerging market. A law or an an act is expected by March rather than a recommendation," notes Contractor.

A highlight of the show will be Digicable which will showcase its Headend-In-The-Sky (HITS) platform. They will also showcase 3D TV.

"There will be 200 companies exhibiting in 92 stalls. We expect 11,000 visitors. Last year we had around 10,000 visitors. Companies are more buoyant about India as the economy improves."

Companies that are exhibiting include NDS, Motorola, Bktel, Aljazeera Network, PCT, PCT International, Arris, Latens and RTPL.
