Police raids hotel in Jaipur for illegally broadcasting ESS channels

MUMBAI: ESPN Software India, the company which distributes ESPN, Star Sports and Star Cricket channels, said police has raided a hotel in Jaipur for allegedly pirating the signals of their channels without agreement.

The company had filed an FIR against Jaipur-based Hotel Vesta International for illegally broadcasting the three channels. Taking action on the report filed by the company, the local police raided the premise of the said hotel and seized their equipment that included 77 viewing cards, set-top box and LCD television used for broadcasting these channels.

The police also arrested an official of the hotel.

“In this case, the hotel Vista International that qualifies as a commercial subscriber of such category was taking unauthorised feed from a leading DTH operator,” the statement added.

The company also said that in similar raids last month, the police had initiated an FIR against Hotel Palms, C-scheme in Jaipur and Maple Abhay, Jodhpur, for illegally broadcasting the signals.
