Bihar raises tax on DTH users

MUMBAI: The Bihar government has raised the entertainment tax on Direct to Home (DTH) services subscribed by customers.

The government has invoked its Entertainment Tax Act, 1984 and will now charge 15 per cent of the whole package. Until now, the tax stood at Rs 15 a month per connection.

The government has no further plans of levying any additional fees on the users of cable services.

By deciding to amplify tax on DTH packages, Bihar is following states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, which has used the additional money to implement various development plans.

The cable subscribers have been spared from the hike in entertainment tax.
