MUMBAI: The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has approved the application from Zee Entertainment Enterprises to change the name of its Bhojpuri channel Zee Bhojpuri Cinema to Ganga Biskope.

Currently, as per the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data of week 17 2019, Bhopuri Cinema bagged the first position with 77655 impressions (000s) sum, followed by Big Ganga in the second position with 54467 impressions (000s) sum. In the third position, Dabangg channel garnered 25598 impressions (000s) sum. Bhojpuri Dhamaka Dishum and Oscar Movies Bhojpuri secured fourth and fifth positions with 14568 impressions (000s) sum and 4856 impressions (000s) sum respectively.

MIB had earlier approved four other channel renaming applications from Star India and Sun TV. The newly renamed channels were Star Sports 1 Bangla, Star Sports 1 Marathi, Sun Marathi and Sun Bangla. In a bid to showcase animated movies to the viewers, Star India had earlier planned to launch Star Movies Kids, which was renamed to Star Sports 1 Marathi.

MIB also gave licenses to six new channels in the month of January and February. The channels were Skystar Bangla, Skystar Telugu, PTC Music, PTC Punjabi, PTC Simran, and Zee Classic. All the six channels were under non-news category.
