German film bags top honours at Pune Intl fest

MUMBAI: The German film, If Not Us, Who?, bagged the top honours at the Pune International Film Festival that concluded yesterday. Directed by Andres Veiel, it walked away with the Best Film award in the World Cinema competition category, taking home a cash prize of Rs 1 million lakh.

Asghar Farhadi won the Best Director award for Nader & Simin: A Separation.

Sumitra Bhave and director Sunil Sukhtankar’s Ha Bharat Maza won the Sant Tukaram award for Best Marathi Film. Based on corruption in Indian middle-class families, the film walked away with a cash prize of Rs 500,000.

On the other hand, Umesh Kulkarni won the Best Director award for the Marathi film Deool while Uttara Baokar and Subodh Bhave were given away the Best Actor award for Ha Bharat Maza and Balgandharva respectively.

Somnath Gupta’s Ami Aadu won the audience award for Best Film in world competition.
