Second international Punjabi film fest in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Thirteen renowned Punjabi documentary and feature films including ‘Khushiyaan’, directed by non-resident Indian Tirlok Malik, are to be screened at the Second International Punjabi Film Festival being held later this week.

Organised by the Punjabi Academy, a body under the Delhi Government set up to promote Punjabi literature and culture.

The Festival will be held at two venues, Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan and Odeon Cinema, from 12 to 15 January.
 
There will be three films screened on each day. The first day will showcase only documentaries ‘Aatu Khoji’ (by Rajiv), ‘Pakhi’ (by Gurcharan Singh Channi), ‘Bhai Vir Singh’ (by Amarjit) and ‘Adda Khadda – The Game of Life’ (Paramjit Kittu).

The features, apart from ‘Khushiyaan’, are ‘Ik Kudi Punjab Di’, ‘Ekam’, ‘Jawani Zindabad’, ‘Yaar Anmulle’, ‘Sukhmani’, ‘Jihne Mere Dil Lutiya’, ‘Mitti’ and ‘Heer Ranjha’.

The Festival is expected to be attended by renowned directors, producers and artistes of the Punjab film industry.

‘Khushiyaan’ stars Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Rama Vij, Tisca Chopra, and Jasbir Jassi and was commercially released late last year.

According to Academy Secretary Rawail Singh, “Since its inception, Punjabi Academy always strived to promote the culture and heritage of Punjab. As film is one of the popular media for promoting ethnic cultures we look forward to this festival with a lot of expectations. Keeping in view the response we received on the first edition of festival, this year our all effort is to make it whole new experience for the audience.”
