Dish joins the bandwagon to buy Hulu

MUMBAI: Dish Network has joined other companies in the first round of bidding for streaming service Hulu.

Most reports are talking about the four names -- Google, Amazon, Yahoo and DirecTV -- participating in the bid. However, Dish is on the shortlist of those anticipated to bid on Hulu by Hulu‘s owners.

Dish‘s name isn‘t surprising in the light of its examining the Hulu‘s financials at least a month ago, but the company had since faded to the oblivion.

In the past 12 months, Dish has been on a remarkable multibillion-dollar spending spree that includes Blockbuster, DBSD North America and TerreStar Networks.

Since stepping in as CEO, Joseph Clayton signaled his aim to compete with Netflix by using Blockbuster o get into the streaming-content business. He had also indicated his intentions to make more acquisitions.

With Hulu and Blockbuster under one roof, Dish‘s efforts in competing with Netflix would improve to a great extent. Though with nearly 25 million subscribers, Netflix has a major lead already.
