Disney Hollywood Studios formally announces name change

MUMBAI: Disney‘s Hollywood Studios, formerly known as Disney-MGM Studios, officially premiered under its new name.

"What we want people to understand is the studio‘s name has changed," said Walt Disney spokesperson Davis Herbst.

"There was a time when Disney needed MGM for properties like The Wizard of Oz and James Bond. But Disney is at a point where all the big movies are Disney or Pixar. The company feels ‘We‘re a pretty big studio, and the world revolves around Hannah Montana,High School Musical and Pirates of the Caribbean, We don‘t need the MGM crutch," said a senior analyst from The Motley Fool, Rick Munnariz.

Along with the name change, new attractions will be added to the park over the next year, including Toy Story Mania! an interactive attraction based on the Toy Story movie franchise; Disney High School Musical 2: School‘s Out and Block Party Bash, two street shows; and Playhouse Disney - Live on Stage!
