Malayalam film wins 3 awards at Imagine India fest

MUMBAI: Malayalam film Veettilekkulla Vazhi, which was featured in the competition section of the 10th Imagine India International film festival, has won three awards - best film, best director and best music director.

The festival, held in Madrid, Spain, concluded recently.

The film revolves around the life of a doctor who is witness to his wife and five-year-old son being killed in a terrorist explosion at a Delhi market. He takes a job at a prison hospital, where he treats a woman, a suicide bomber in a critical condition after an attack by the Indian Jihadi terrorist group.

Before dying, the woman asks him to find her five-year-old son and unite him with his father. Soon the doctor and the boy set out on a mysterious journey only to discover that the father is head of the very same terrorist group that killed his mother.

The film has also been selected for Zanzibar International Film Festival, London Indian Film Festival, and Bollywood and Beyond Film Festival Germany in the competition sections of the respective festivals.

A homeopathic medical graduate, director Biju made his debut as writer and director with Saira (2005), that opened the ‘Tous Les Cinemas Du Monde’ of the 2007 edition of the Cannes film festival.
