Rio grosses Rs 110 million in five weeks

MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios India said its 3D animation film, Rio, has grossed over Rs 110 million.

The movie released in India on 2 April.

Said Fox Star Studios India CEO Vijay Singh, "We are thrilled by the success of Rio and consider this an important landmark for animation films in India. India was never considered as a big market for animation films, but the success of the film has proved otherwise."

The movie is directed by Carlos Saldana, who had earlier made Ice Age.

Set in Rio de Janeiro and the lush rainforest of Brazil, Rio is a comedy-adventure that centres on Blu, a rare macaw who thinks that he is the last of his kind. When he discovers there‘s another, he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio.
