Walt Disney acquires Togetherville

MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company has acquired the Mandeep Singh Dhillon-founded Togetherville for an undisclosed sum. ‘

The Indian-origin entrepreneur Dhillon founded Togetherville in 2008 and released the public beta version on 19 May last year.

Togetherville, a Facebook-like social networking platform for children between 6 to 10 years of age, allows them to play games, watch videos, send pre-selected messages to their friends or have their comments scrutinised before being published.

It serves as a social online community for families where parents create safe online neighbourhoods for their kids to play and connect with the real-life friends and family they already know and trust.

Each neighbourhood is built around each specific child and remains closed to outsiders. Kids have their own profile pages along with their photos. Profile pages of the children are closed to outsiders, unless they are approved by the parents.

The acquisition follows Disney‘s purchases of social gaming company Playdom for $563 million and mobile music game maker Tapulous last year.
