MUMBAI: Kids' channel Nickelodeon may have yet to make its presence felt in India, but it continues to garner accolades in the US. Its show Dora the Explorer recently won a Peabody.

29 winners were chosen from over 1000 entries for the annual awards hosted by the University of Georgia. The presentation will take place on 17 May in New York. Katie Couric who co-anchors NBC's Today show will host the ceremony.

In citing Nick's show, the organisation issued a statement saying, " "Knights, dragons and talking drawbridges are a few of the appealing devices used in this inventive series to teach Spanish phrases to its young audience, and in doing so emphasise the importance of multilingual education." There was more good news for Viacom. Its campaign Fight for Your Rights: Protect Yourself public education partnership that was done in association with the Kaiser Family Foundation was cited.

HBO was honoured with three Peabodys. The Wire was recognised by the Peabody Board as "one of the most intense and complex narratives television viewers have seen. War Photographer a documentary about Pulitzer Prize winner photographer James Nachtwey and To Live is Better than to Die an account of a family's grim struggle with HIV/Aids in rural China were also cited.

BBC America's The Office also won acclaim from the organisation. The show was praised for its ability to draw laughs despite the absence of predictable jokes, easy punch lines, a laugh track and big name stars.
