Govt. looking to reintroduce CAS bill

NEW DELHI: The conditional access system issue is likely to be reintroduced in the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Parliament), according to government sources.

From the Left parties' side, the CPM, and the Congress want to have a thorough debate on the issue, which has generated much heat in and outside Parliament.

It is also learnt that from the CPM's side Nilotpaul Basu is slated to speak on the amendment being sought by the government in the Cable TV Networks Regulation Act, 1995.

Meanwhile, the hourly-blackout of cable services from 6-7 pm continued in Delhi for a second day on Sunday. On 24 July the cable operators plan a day-long "dharna" and possible a blackout the whole day.

The protest is against the delay in implementation of CAS and is being done under the aegis of a newly-formed cable body - Cable Operators' United Front.
