Star World gives 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' a primetime slot

Star World

MUMBAI: Star World has given the chat show with Oprah Winfrey a prime time slot. The show which it is calling Oprah Prime Time will air every Sunday at 8:30 pm from 5 June 2005.

Fittingly enough the first episode has a desi flavour to it. The queen of the chat show genre gets up close and personal with Aishwarya Rai. Earlier The Oprah Winfrey Show only aired on weekday mornings.

In this wide-ranging episode Rai said to be India's most stunning international export, shows Oprah a move or two in the traditional Indian sari. The two also chat about her aspirations in showbiz, her mission to dispel myths on Indian women, and her interpretation of what 'beauty' is. "To me, beautiful is as beautiful does. I think that's what speaks volumes," says Rai. On being asked about her views on the Indian women practicing Kamasutra, Ash promptly replies, "I call it the land of Kamasutra." And when asked about her views on arranged marriages Rai exclaims "I will cross the bridge when I reach it".

On a mission to dispel myths about Indian women Rai states, "The first time that I traveled overseas and interacted with people, the immediate response was to the way I spoke English. People wondered whether my education was in India, and they said, "No you must have studied outside of India". Why would people think that we don't study English?"
