MUMBAI: Veteran journalist Ted Koppel has joined Discovery Communications as managing editor. He will produce news documentaries for the Discovery channel.
Discovery said Koppel had signed a multiyear deal and his first program for the network is due next fall. Koppel was associated with ABC since the last 25 years.
Koppel will host and produce long-form programming examining major global topics and events exclusively for Discovery, said network president Billy Campbell.
Koppel said he was excited to be going to a channel "that wants nothing more than to produce the kind of television journalism that focuses on issues that matter to the largest number of people."
In his final broadcast on the popular ABC show Nightline, Koppel asked viewers to give his successors a chance, warning that otherwise the network "will just put another comedy show in this time slot."
