Sky Movies channels to offer widescreen viewing

LONDON: Broadcasters are stepping up the pitch for offering widescreen programming and dolby digital services on the small screen.
Effective 3 June, all Sky Movie channels, Sky One and Sky One Mix will be able to broadcast 16:9 widescreen programming for the first time, says a digitalsky report. Dolby Digital 5.1 would also be available for films on Sky Movies Premier 1,2 and 3 from 3 June.
Widescreen is being introduced on Sky One and Sky One Mix. The letter 'W' that will appear on the information panel when they press the 'i' button on their Sky remote control will enable viewers to identify programmes being screened on widescreen. Dolby Digital 5.1 movies will be identified by 'DD'.
More than 280 different films in widescreen, including approximately 20 new titles every month, will be showcased on the movies channel. The report also states that June's widescreen premieres will include Heist, Ali,Behind Enemy Lines, Moulin Rouge and the original Planet of the Apes.
