MUMBAI: UTV has bagged a Disney contract for the media major's first locally produced animation short story series out of Asia.
The contract for Legends of the Ring of Fire, a sries of six animated tales based on Asian folklore from around the region, was won after a two month scouting of 15 studios across the continent, says an official release. According to Walt Disney Asia managing director Ashok Miranda, UTV's pitch went the extra mile "with beautiful executions, concept drawings and an animatic." The contract is part of Disney Channel Asia's concerted effort to provide more localised content for its Asian audience.
UTV has a long running association with Disney, having dubbed most of their animation library into Hindi, Tamil and other languages. According to the release, the first 10 episodes of six minutes duration each went out at half a million US dollars.
