Sirius Satellite Radio to launch 'video on the move'

MUMBAI: Sirius Satellite Radio has entered into a deal with Microsoft to launch a video service for automobiles. The service is expected to launch in 2006.

The mobile video platform will use Microsoft's Windows Media Video 9 technology. The two companies also plan on working together to develop new video applications. The company has plans to launch kids' radio channels as well.

"We will take the DVD experience to the next level, offering the best content easily available to families and consumers," Sirius chief executive officer Mel Karmazin has been quoted as saying.

Sirius delivers more than 120 channels of commercial-free music, compelling talk shows, news and information, and sports programming to listeners across the USA in digital quality sound. SIRIUS offers 65 channels of 100 per cent commercial-free music, and features over 55 channels of sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic and weather for a monthly subscription fee of only $12.95. SIRIUS also broadcasts live play-by- play games of the NFL and NBA, and is the official Satellite Radio partner of the NFL.
