BANGALORE / MUMBAI: World famous cricketers from 10 test playing nations will vie for top honours once again. This time, though, it will not be on a cricket pitch but on a golf course.
The Garden City will play host to the first ever McDowell's Signature World Cricket-Golfers' Championship (WCGC) to be held at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA), Bangalore from 24 - 27 November.
Ten Sports will telecast the highlights of the match. The tourney is managed by Delhi based Tiger Sports Marketing.
WCGC boasts of cricketing icons such as Kapil Dev, Mark Richardson, Gary Sobers, Mark Waugh, Ian Botham and Wasim Akram. however, more stars are expected to join the party.
All Test playing countries including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh will be represented.
A team will consist of two players vying for the team title of McDowell's Signature World Cricket-Golfers' Champions and the best individual Cricket-Golfer title.
Announcing the championship, UB Group chairman Dr Vijay Mallya said, "McDowell's Signature is positioned as the 'New Sign of Success' and has been closely associated with the premium and extremely sought after game of golf. The McDowell's Signature World Cricket-Golfers' Championship (WCGC) creates a unique platform for successful cricketers of yesteryears to get back onto the sports field, albeit one of a different kind, and we are extremely happy and proud to be part of this pioneering effort."
All team members will either be former Test or One Day International cricketers with a single digit handicap. In addition, there will be one international team represented by four of the greatest cricketers the world has seen. The event will witness former cricketers and invitees from corporate India coming together to compete and revel in the most extravagant and fun filled golf tournament ever held in the sub-continent.
While the first two rounds feature a celebrity Am-Am competition, round three and four will determine the world's best McDowell's Signature Cricket-Golfers' team and best individual Signature Cricket-Golfer in a team scramble and best ball format respectively.
McDowell's Signature has come forward as title sponsor for this championship, thus further consolidating on its already close association with the game of golf in India. The brand conducts India's largest Inter-Club Golf Championship which is currently underway - the McDowell's Signature Celebrity Golf charity event; and, is also a Tour Partner on the Amby Valley PGAI Tour, states an official release.
