MUMBAI: The first phase of shooting of Mediaone Global Entertainment‘s Rajnikant-starrer Kochaidaiyaan has recently been completed in London and the film has been slated to be released in September this year.
Kochaidaiyaan is inspired by the name of Kochadaiyan Ranadhiran, the Pandya Dynasty king. Son and successor of Arikesari Maravarman, he asserted his superiority over the Cheras and Cholas and subdued the Marathas in the city of Mangalapuram, the modern day Mangalore.
He also started the hostilities with the Chalukyas of Badami and the Gangas. He undertook a campaign against the Ay (Ayangar) chieftains. He defeated them in Kurunadu in south Travancore after which he earned the allegiance of the Ay chief.
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is the heroine and the music has been scored by double Oscar-winner AR Rahman.
Rajinikanth‘s daughter Soundarya R Ashwin is directing the film with the supervision of director-actor KS Ravikumar. The film stars Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone besides R Sarath Kumar, Shobana, Nassar and Jackie Shroff.
The film is likely to be released in Telugu, English, Hindi and Japanese.
