Malegaon ka Superman succumbs to throat cancer

MUMBAI: Just a day after Malegaon Ka Superman was shown to him by a local artist group as an Eid gift, the 28-year old lead player in the movie Shaikh Shafique succumbed to throat cancer yesterday.

In the film, Shafique‘s character campaigns against tobacco and gutkha consumption. But the irony is that in real life, he himself was addicted to gutkha.

The film deals with local issues, has local actors and is in the local language. Malegaon‘s Superman is skinny, wears shorts and flies into electric wires; his mission to save a village from a tobacco-loving villain.

 
Condoling Shafique‘s death, the film‘s director Shaikh Nasir said: "He
made the film about the after-effects of tobacco, but now he himself
has fallen prey to that very habit."

Acquired by producer Sunil Bohra for distribution, the film is scheduled to release nationwide in November.
