Lethal Water Bombs is best docu at Los Angeles Cinema fest

MUMBAI: The Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood Spring 2011 has adjudged The Lethal Water Bombs, a 21-minute documentary about Mullaperiyar Dam, as the best documentary (Short).

The award will be given away at the White Fire Theater in Los Angeles on 6 April.

Directed by Sohan Roy, a naval architect by profession, the film gives a scientific explanation on the disastrous nature of the Mullaperiyar Dam with a warning to those who turn a blind eye towards the reality of a possible natural disaster.

It may be noted that Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been at loggerheads over the Dam built under an agreement between the then Maharaja of Travancore and the British administration signed in 1886.

While the dam is located in Kerala‘s Idukki district, it serves the people of Tamil Nadu. In recent years, Tamil Nadu has demanded that the storage capacity of the dam be raised from 136 feet (41.5 m) to 142 feet (43 m) to meet the increasing demand of water for irrigation.
