Assam govt set to resurrect ailing film industry

Pranati Phukan

MUMBAI: The Assam government is taking serious steps to revive the state‘s ailing film industry, said the state‘s Cultural Affairs
Minister Pranati Phukan.

The minister was taking part in the discussions he held with celebrated filmmakers of the state including directors Munin Barua,
Manju Bora, Bani Das and noted actors Nipon Goswami and Biju Phukan.

The minister expressed the willingness to solve the problems relating to the production of films and poor condition of Assamese cinema
halls.

The government, on its part, has assured that all steps will be taken to upgrade the auditoria to draw more crowds.

Stressing the need to open over 100 cinema halls in the city which have closed down, the film fraternity urged the government to help release new Assamese films simultaneously in at least 60 halls in line with Hindi films to draw crowd. The minister assured the delegation of all help from the government‘s side.
