AR Rahman turns to making films

MUMBAI: In his aim to spread his wings, AR Rahman is all set to don the producer’s hat.

Rahman, who recently launched his production company Y M Movies, plans to initially make films for the South. Not deviating from his first love, Rahman’s first production will be a musical.

Rahman, the winner of an Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, has his own in-house studio called Panchathan Record Inn at Chennai.

The "Mozart of Madras", Rahman is known by the nickname of Isai Puyal (Music Storm). In 2009, Time magazine placed Rahman in its list of World‘s Most Influential People.

Besides composing music for Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi films, Rahman is known for his tracks like The Lord of War, Inside Man and The Accidental Husband. He also scored music in Shekhar Kapur-directed Elizabeth - The Golden Age, Slumdog Millionaire, Couples Retreat and the Chinese film Warriors of Heaven & Earth produced by Sony Pictures.
