Amsterdam Fest creates new section for Indian films

MUMBAI: In order to focus on the new generation of Indian filmmakers, the ongoing World Cinema Festival, Amsterdam, has created a special section on independent Indian cinema called Soul of India.

The films that are being screened in the special section are Aamir Bashir‘s Harud (Autumn), Onir‘s I Am, Sidharth Srinivasan‘s Pairon Talle and Umesh Kulkarni‘s Vihir. Two short films like Supriyo Sen‘s Wagah and Udedh Bun by Siddharth Sinha comprise the tally of films being screened at the festival.

"The early years of the 21st century seem to have brought forth a first cautious flowering of a new, independent, artistic Indian cinema. Slowly but surely, a new generation of Indian filmmakers seems to be reflecting Western auteur cinema, through the prism of their own culture," reads the official website of the festival.

The section that opened on 12 August with Onir‘s I Am will be on till 21 August.
