NEW DELHI : Information and Broadcasting minister Manish Tewari today strongly condemned the attack on the Doordarshan office in Chhattisgarh?s Jagdalpur district, 320 km south of Raipur, by a group of suspected Maoists.

The minister said the incident was very sad since the public broadcaster was attempting to give voice to people in such regions.

The attack in the early hours of yesterday resulted in the death of three security personnel and one injured.

"The Maoists scaled the wall of the Doordarshan station at Marenga, 12 km from Jagdalpur town, and opened fire on Chhattisgarh Armed Force personnel around 2.00 am, said a police source.A head constable and two constables were killed in the attack. The injured security official was rushed to a hospital.

The Maoists fled with the weapons of the security personnel after the attack, the police source added. The attack shook the Chhattisgarh government because Jagdalpur is relatively the least affected of the seven districts in the state?s Maoist-hit Bastar zone.
