    MUMBAI:The World Economic Forum has nominated Ajay Bijli, Chairman & Managing Director, PVR Ltd for the prestigious Young Global Leaders awards 2007. This honour is bestowed each year by the World Economic Forum to recognize and acknowledge young leaders across the world for their professional accomplishments, their commitment to society and their potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.

    With a nation, which is the largest producer of movies in the world and a population that thrives on films, PVR Cinemas, under the leadership of Ajay Bijli, has worked exceptionally hard to change the dynamics of the entertainment industry in India over the last ten years.

    Commenting on the same, Ajay said, ?I, on behalf of all the people at PVR Cinemas, feel tremendously honored to be nominated for the prestigious Young Global Leaders award 2007. It?s indeed a great feeling to be nominated and be part of an esteemed international platform as World Economic Forum?. ?What gives me immense pleasure is the fact that PVR has not only been successful in carving a niche for itself but this nomination has helped become a catalyst in getting recognition for India on a world stage?, he further added.

    Drawn from a pool of over 4,000 candidates, the Young Global Leaders nominated in 2007 have been chosen by a selection committee of 34 eminent international media leaders, chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

    The Young Global Leaders 2007 include 125 business leaders, as well as leaders from governments, academia, media and society at large from nearly 70 countries, a unique, multi stakeholder community of the world?s most extraordinary young leaders who dedicate a part of their time to jointly address global challenges and who are committed to devote part of their knowledge and energy to collectively work towards a better future.

    The current community of 416 Young Global Leaders represents 90 countries and includes Larry Page and Sergey Brin, co-founders of Google; Mikheil Saakashvil, President of Georgia; Kumi Naidoo, Secretary -General and CEO. Civicus: World Alliance for Citizen Participation; Daniela Mercury, Singer; Brazil; and Michelle Guthrie, CEO, Star group.

    A Harvard Business School Alumni and a Hindu college graduate, Ajay was earlier bestowed with the prestigious Theatre World Newsmakers Award, CineAsia 2004, Retailer of the Year 2004 and 2005, Signature Youth Icon for the year 2005 and Delhi Ratna Award 2005 among others.
