• GP2 heads towards climax live on Ten Sports

Submitted by ITV Production on Sep 14, 2007

MUMBAI: Ten Sports, the most watched sports channel of the sub-continent, remains the definitive crystal ball for millions of motor sports fans as it continues to bring live the GP2 Series of motor sports ? this time the penultimate race of the season from the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, one of the world?s truly great racing circuits, in Belgium.

The GP2 Series, also known as the Feeder Series to the Formula One, was started by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and Renault F1 boss Flavio Briatore in 2005. With champions like Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, who have graduated with flying colours to the F1 series, the GP2 has more than met its stated objectives of creating champions of the future.

The GP2 Spa-Francorchamps from Belgium will be available live on Ten Sports. Race 1 is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, at 7:30 pm (IST), while Race 2 is on Sunday, September 16, at 1:30 pm.

Two weekends remain in the 2007 GP2 Series, and as the teams prepare for the final furlong, the championship is still wide open with Timo Glock leading by 11 points over Lucas di Grassi. It promises to be an exciting battle between the two in Belgium.

The challenge of Spa is always vast. One of the most challenging tracks to drive in existence, the tests for the GP2 Series drivers will be one of the greatest of the season. Spa comes back on the GP2 series after a year?s absence.

In 2005, the weekend was disrupted heavily by the inclement weather, which always seems to play a part in Spa. Nelson Piquet Jr took his first GP2 Series win then, while the rain-affected sprint was won by Adam Carroll.

Following his podium and Race 2 win, Timo Glock leads the championship on 78 points, 11 ahead of Lucas di Grassi on 67. Luca Filippi sits third on 50, one ahead of Giorgio Pantano on 49 with Kazuki Nakajima on 36 and Adam Carroll on 35.

In the teams championship, iSport International are almost ensured of the title. They have now broken 100 and lead on 108, as much as 31 ahead of ART on 77. Super Nova International are third on 63.

  • John Abraham and Bipasha teams up with Indian Idol finalists on 15 September at 9 p.m

Submitted by ITV Production on Sep 13, 2007

MUMBAI: The grand finale of Indian Idol is just a step away. As one looks back on the last few months --from the auditions in different parts of the country, through the piano rounds, theatre rounds and to the last gala round it has been a truly memorable journey. Season 3 of Indian Idol has unanimously been declared the most popular with its worldwide viewers, talent and popularity of its contestants.

The gala round culminates this week. The two contestants who met during the piano round in Mumbai and became friends almost instantly and have remained room mates and best buddies throughout the contest are ironically pitted against each other in the finals. To their credit, Amit Paul and Prashant Tamang are fighting to the finish to do deliver their best yet with not a dent in their friendship which speaks volumes about the people they are.

The last gala round before the finals was a very special event. It had two very special guests ? John Abraham and Bipasha Basu. The two decided to be on opposite teams to play a different ball game. Their "Goal" was to support the two competitors. Bipasha chose to support Amit (her mother too was there to support him) while John threw his weight behind Prashant.

In the first round each contestant sang a song of their choice. In the second they sang a song given by the other as challenge. Prashant sang Amit‘s choice of song for him Badi mushkil hai ? with such gay abandon that he had Annu Malek‘s vote for the Indian Idol title! Prashant‘s challenge for Amit was to sing Bulla ki jaana main kaun.. Amit got a standing ovation from all the four judges for it! Bipasha hoped some day soon Amit would do playback singing for John so that she would have the pleasure of hearing a romantic song in Amit‘s voice sung for her! Did someone say the two had broken up.

In the final segment both contestants sang Tanhaiyee? from Dil chahta hai? the judges found it hard to decide who was better. It is going to be even harder for the viewers. Once again every viewer wishes that the best man wins the Indian Idol title. Go ahead and select your best man!

Submitted by ITV Production on Sep 12, 2007

MUMBAI: Sania Mirza?s quest of adding a second WTA Tour title ? when she starts as one of the overwhelming favourites in the Sunfeast Open ? will be available live and exclusive only on Ten Sports, the most watched sports channel of the sub-continent.

The $175,000 Sunfeast Open, the biggest women?s tournament in India, is a WTA Tier III tournament. It starts in Kolkata from 17 September, with the final scheduled for 23 September.

Sania, who has improved to a career-high 27th rank in the world, is in good form as her performance in the pre-US Open tournaments shows. She reached the final at Stanford, semi-final at Cincinnati, and quarterfinals at San Diego. She also reached the third round of the US Open.

But she will have her task cut out, given the presence of such stars as world number 10 and the Wimbledon runners-up Marion Bartoli of France, and number 12 Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia. Also making an appearance will be the Russian, Maria Kirilenko, currently ranked 35th in the world.

Live telecast of the matches start at 7:00 pm on the first two days, and from 5:00 pm IST on the next four days, including the final on Sunday, 23 September.

The Sunfeast Open is yet another blockbuster in the impressive tennis portfolio of Ten Sports. The channel recently showed the US Open live.

Chris McDonald, CEO, Taj Television Ltd, commented: "Sania Mirza?s popularity easily rivals some of the best cricketers in the country, and the expectations from her are huge given that she has shown excellent form in the US hard court season".

?Ten Sports is committed to promoting sport in the sub-continent, and the Sunfeast Open forms a very important event on our programming calendar.?

As a build-up towards this most anticipated event, Sania is also the Legend of the Month on Ten Sports, and a half-an-hour preview show of the tournament will also be aired on 14 September at 8:30 pm IST and 17 September at 4:30 pm.
