New Delhi: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is to proactively pursue the work of a Task Force set up by the Human Resource Development Ministry to examine the issue of mushrooming of media schools all over the country
The I and B Ministry gave this assurance to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology in an action-taken report presented during the current session of Parliament.
In the assurance, I and B Minister Manish Tewaru said his Ministry will extend all help to the HRD Ministry as the Task Force is studying issues related to media education and training on media related discipline.
The Task Force, which is expectd to give its report within a year of its first meeting, includes representatives of stakeholders, Ministries, the University Grants Commission, thbe Indira Gandhi National Open University etc.
It will suggest remedial steps including setting up of an accreditation mechanism, according to the I and B Ministry.
In its report, the Committee had said that ?keeping in view the urgent need for setting up of such a council, the Committee recommend the I and B Ministry to constantly follow up with the HRD Ministry so that Media Council is immediately constituted to facilitate media education and training on media related discipline.
It had observed that in view of mushrooming of large number of schools across the Country which are imparting education and training in media related discipline, a need is being felt that a Media Council should be set up on the lines of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) for electronic media to promote media education and research in the Country.
